Reuters, BERLIN/FRANKFURT, Sept 8 (Reuters) – The German government and Deutsche Bahn (DBN.UL) have agreed in principle to sell DB Schenker, government and company sources told Reuters on Thursday. The supervisory board of state-owned Deutsche Bahn will approve the sale as soon as possible, possibly this year, the sources said.

Banking sources have valued DB Schenker at between 12 billion euros and 20 billion euros, but the calculations will be affected by the state of the global economy as well as the war in Ukraine and the ongoing energy crisis.

Another source familiar with the process said banks could receive invitations to participate in the pitch sale process in the coming months, possibly in December ahead of a 2023 listing.

An outright sale and an IPO listing are options, the sources said, adding that a sale in 2024 is also possible without time pressure. Let’s wait and see.

The German transport ministry and Deutsche Bahn declined to comment.

With the formation of Germany’s new traffic light coalition government last year, the political situation clearly turned in the direction of the sale of DB Schenker
